Deadlines are approaching for Craig County residents who have yet to register to vote, or those who wish to do so in-person early voting or apply for an absentee ballot.

The hours for all of these services will also be expanded in the final weeks of the month, according to the county’s general registrar office. The office, located at 155 Main St. in New Castle, is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and began adding weekend hours this past Sunday.

For those who want to vote on the weekend, the office will be open the next two Saturdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and this Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

The deadline for those who have yet to register or want to apply for an absentee ballot is this Friday.

To be eligible to vote, applicants must be 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen and Virginia resident, and have not had their voting rights revoked due to being convicted of a felony or being declared mentally incapacitated.

All Craig County residents will be voting for the Senate contest between Democratic incumbent Mark Warner and Republican challenger Bert Mizusawa, and the 9th Congressional District contest between Republican incumbent Morgan Griffith and Democratic challenger Joy Powers.

There are also three proposed constitutional amendments.

In addition to the county-wide races and amendment questions, residents of New Castle will also be voting for mayor and four town council positions.

In the Craig Creek District, voters will also choose a board of supervisors seat that was vacated by former Supervisor Keigh Dunbar, who resigned last April due to health issues. The applicant temporarily appointed to fill the seat, Raymond Christian, is running unopposed to complete the term, which ends at the end of 2027.

More information on voting can be obtained by calling 540-864-6190.
