The Craig County girls pulled off a big volleyball win on the road last week when they defeated Parry McCluer in Buena Vista. The Rockets won 25-14, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-21 for their third Pioneer District win of the season.
“It was a great win for us,” said Rockets coach Suzanne Crawford. “We were down a player and had to shift some positions around, but everyone played very well. It was awesome, I was so proud of them.”
Alley Calfee led the Rockets with eight kills along with four blocks and an ace. Annalese Zimmerman had seven kills and 15 digs and Holley Givens had four kills, 14 digs and an ace.
Natalie Fisher led the Rockets in assists with 22, and she also had 16 digs and a team-high five aces. Addisyn Higgins had four digs, Laikan May had 18 digs and Mia Beller had 11 digs.
“Alley had an outstanding game with great communication, momentum, and focus on both offense and defense,” said Crawford. “Holley also played well and Natalie was completely on point. Overall, the whole team played hard.”
With the win, the Rockets improved to 4-14 overall and 3-6 in the district. They were 2-2 in the past four matches and hoped to keep the momentum going with a home match against Eastern Montgomery on Tuesday. That was the last scheduled regular season match.
The girls also played Bath last week and lost in three sets in New Castle. Annalise Zimmerman and Calfee had fantastic serving nights and both hit very well.
