Four Craig County High School graduates have been awarded Bobby Scruggs Memorial Scholarships for 2026, continuing a program that honors the legacy of longtime NASCAR official Bobby Scruggs.
Scruggs served as a NASCAR official for nearly 40 years before losing a 13-year battle with cancer on Jan. 22, 2005. Since his death, fundraising efforts in his memory have supported scholarships for students pursuing careers in a variety of fields, including motorsports and the automotive industry.
The program has awarded 185 scholarships to students from 26 high schools across Southwest Virginia. It also has supported 15 internships with Motor Racing Outreach Children’s Ministry, as well as internships with Motor Racing Outreach and the Wake Forest Research Center.
The 2026 Craig County High School scholarship recipients, who each received $1,000, are:
Cheyanne R. Bell, who plans to attend Virginia Western Community College and Virginia Tech to study veterinary science.
Cheyenne L. Combs, who plans to attend Radford University to study criminal science.
Raylee A. Estes, who plans to attend Radford University to study education.
Alean J. Owens, who plans to attend Virginia Western Community College and Radford University to study nursing.
