The Craig County Historical Society celebrated a major milestone Monday, April 27, by paying off the bank note on its General Store Museum, locally known as the Clifton’s Store building.

To mark the occasion, members gathered at the museum to ceremonially burn the bank note and celebrate with cake and ice cream. Life member Ed Lee burned the note with assistance from some of the society’s youngest life members, Chase and Jonah Dunbar, along with their older brother, Charlie Bob Dunbar.

The historical society purchased the building in October 2023.

Society officials thanked everyone who donated funds to help pay for the museum and support the project.

Residents will have opportunities to tour the museum during the next Fall Festival or on Fridays through the middle of November from 1 to 4 p.m. The society also noted that its genealogy library is open Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m.

The historical society is also seeking new members. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. every fourth Monday from March through November in the genealogy library.
