Craig County Public Schools is accepting sign-ups for a substitute bus driver training class scheduled for June 2026, offering community members an opportunity to support local students while receiving the required instruction and hands-on experience.

School officials said the training will take place at Craig County Public Schools, with exact class dates to be announced after registration is complete.

The program includes 24 hours of classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel driving experience and hands-on preparation focused on the safe transportation of students.

To be eligible, participants must be at least 21 years old before the class begins. Candidates also must obtain a Virginia Department of Education driver physical, complete a drug test and hold a commercial driver’s license learner’s permit, which can be obtained through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Participants will be asked to sign a one-year agreement to help cover the expense of the class, according to the school division.

Craig County Public Schools said substitute drivers play an important role in supporting the school division and making a difference in students’ daily lives while gaining valuable training and experience.

Those interested in registering can contact the Craig County Public Schools Central Office at 540-864-5191 for more information. Registration also is available by emailing jhuffman@craig.k12.va.us or by calling the same number.

Additional details, including specific class dates, will be shared with participants after sign-ups are received.
