In 2020, Virginians voted to end partisan gerrymandering and establish a fairer process for drawing congressional districts. The redistricting amendment now before voters risks undoing that promise.
The maps Virginia currently uses are widely considered among the fairest in the nation and closely reflect the political balance of the Commonwealth. They ensure that voters across the state, including those rural communities, have a meaningful voice in Congress.
The proposed change would move us in the opposite direction. By creating a heavily tilted congressional map, it would concentrate political power in Northern Virginia while diluting the representation of rural regions that already struggle to be heard in statewide debates. Issues that matter deeply to rural communities, including agriculture, infrastructure, energy policy, and economic opportunity, deserve a seat at the table.
Here in Craig County, voters demonstrated exactly how strongly they believe in fair representation. By percentage, Craig County ranked number one in Virginia in support of the constitutional amendment to establish non partisan redistricting.
This should not be a Republican or Democratic issue. It is a fairness issue. Virginians rejected partisan mapmaking once before, and we should stand by that decision.
Early Voting is now open at the Craig County Registrar’s Office. Vote NO on the redistricting amendment by April 21!
Protect rural representation. Protect fair maps.
