Russell Wayne Caldwell, 91, of New Castle, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 16, 2026. He was born on July 5, 1934, to the late Dixie and Claude Swanson Caldwell. Russell was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Castle. He was a beloved member of the “Wrecking Crew” that took care of the church. Mr. Caldwell loved God, his family, his friends, helping people, and to work! He served as a volunteer for the New Castle Vol. Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Claudine Bain. Left to cherish his precious memory include his beloved wife of 68 years, Wanita B. Caldwell; children, Dianna Caldwell, Penny Smith (Jeff), Betsy All (Stanley), Rachel Rock (Aubrey); grandchildren, India Quesenberry (Charlie), Adam Stebar (Jessica), Amanda All, Jenny Thompson (Adam), Jacob All, Shawn Rock, Levi Rock; great-grandchildren, Cholie, Sydney, Jemmason Stebar, Aiden Crawford, Kayden Thompson, AC Thompson, Will Thompson, and one great-grandson, Russell Ellis Thompson that is expected in the spring.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Paitsel Funeral Home Chapel in New Castle, Va., with Rev. Emory Tarpley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the New Castle Vol. Fire Dept. Paitsel Funeral Home in New Castle is serving the Caldwell Family.
