On April 25, fourth grade McCleary Elementary Virginia Studies students went to Monticello. Prior to the pandemic, this was a beloved field trip that took place most school years. This year, Mrs. Wolfe, the Virginia Studies teacher, decided to bring it back. With the help of donations and the awarded Charles Angel Fund Grant 33 students, Mrs. Wolfe, Ms. Klemovitch, Ms. Taylor and 13 chaperones were able to attend for free. Students were able to go on a guided tour of Thomas Jefferson’s home and explore the grounds afterwards. To follow, the group went to lunch at Michie’s Tavern and the gravesite of General Stonewall Jackson. “It was wonderful to have our Virginia Studies students experience our country’s history; not just read about it,” Wolfe said. She said she looks forward to this becoming an annual tradition again.
