Barbara Deis Pendleton passed peacefully in her sleep at home in New Castle on October 22, 2024. Her parents, Wilbur and Stella Deis, and her sister, Patricia Pletcher predeceased her. She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Jesse Curtis (J.C.) Pendleton, and their four children, Emogene Pendleton Mabes (Preston), Susan Pendleton Price (Chuck), John C. Pendleton (Michael) and James Pendleton; four grandchildren, Travis Mabes (Beth), Jesse Mabes (Morgan), Luke Price (Reagan), and Brittney Price; and, seven great grandchildren, Colton Mabes, Cooper Mabes, Carsyn Mabes, Corrie Mabes, Autumn Mabes, Tripp Mabes, and Josie Mabes, and many nieces and nephews. Barbara is also survived by sister-in-law, Eva Pendleton Vines, and brother-in-law, Lawrence Vines, and special family friends, Ann and Stephen Cagle.
Born in Akron, Ohio and raised in Kent, Barbara attended Kent State before taking a position with Firestone Tires in Akron. Soon after, she agreed to go on a blind date where she met the man she would spend the rest of her life with.
After marrying J.C. they moved around several times, eventually settling in J.C.’s hometown. They built their family home up the street from J.C.’s childhood home. Barbara often said she was a country girl at heart and loved the Craig community, the mountains, and the serene lifestyle. She held membership at the United Methodist Church of New Castle, Virginia since 1968, where three of her four children were baptized.
Barbara cherished her husband and her family. A loving wife and mother, Barbara happily helped when her children needed her. The arrival of each new grandchild and great grandchild filled her with joy. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her family grew.
Her husband, J.C., and son, James, provided her care and kept her comfortable in her final years.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Paitsel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on hours prior to the service.

As Barbara survived breast cancer years ago, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research and awareness, in lieu of flowers.
