It was glamourous. It was glittery. It was by far the strangest event ever witnessed by a sane audience.
It was last Thursday night at the CCHS auditorium where 10 brave, and somewhat odd, male students stripped off their pride and masculinity and transformed themselves into some of the most beautiful lades ever to grace the night—NOT!
It was once again time for the Booster Club to present its annual “Beauty in the Beast” fund-raising pageant. A hilarious, crowd-pleasing contest were high school students dress up as women and compete with hopes of winning the esteemed title of “Ms. Rocket Boobster.”
The contestants were judged, like in most beauty pageants, in three major categories: Talent (or lack thereof), which consisted of dancing, acrobatic acts, and many a busted water balloon. The Evening Gown competition where the “women” were to dress in their most beautiful gowns and display their poise and grace for the judges. And finally, and most importantly, they were to answer the tough and challenging question “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
The crowd was bombarded with many hysterical and somewhat risqué answers to this.
When the laughter subsided and the water balloons cleared, Zach “Valentine” Brown emerged as the winner. He took the crown by dazzling the audience with a spectacular performance on his guitar and with his memorable, if not unforgettable, answer to the directed question with, “I want to be a great big pail of sunshine, so when everyone’s gloomy I can spread myself around and make them happy again.”
The show was a raving success and the Booster Club raised much needed funds. Debra Cooper, the mastermind behind the show said “We promised them the comedy event of the year and all promises were kept.”
After witnessing this year’s pageant, we will be anxiously awaiting next year’s in hopes of seeing all of our young athletes once again embarrass themselves and their parents.
