Craig County graduated seniors Karly Potter and Matthew Lucas were chosen to be the nominees for the annual B’nai B’rith Athletic Achievement Awards. The B’nai B’rith Awards were initiated in 1951 by the local Israel Friedlander Lodge and recognize senior athletes from 19 area high schools. Each school nominates one young woman and one young man and two winners are named at the annual banquet. Students are judged on the following criteria; 50 percent on athletic achievement, 30 percent on scholarship and 20 percent on personal life. Karly played softball for Craig County High and Matthew was a basketball and baseball standout. Both are good students and involved in community service. The two winners among the 38 nominees were to be announced at the B’nai B’rith banquet at the Hotel Roanoke on Monday of this week.
