Jacquelyn “Jackie” Joyce Cantley, 90 of New Castle, VA, passed away on April 26, 2024, at the home of her son, Jim Cantley. Jackie was born August 26, 1933, to the late George and Mary Joyce in Ludlow, Vermont. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Panco Cantley.
Jackie graduated from the University of Vermont and received her master’s degree at Radford University. Jackie was a high school science teacher in Craig County beginning in the early 70s until her retirement in 1995. At New Castle High School, she was cheerleading sponsor and Beta Club sponsor.
Jackie was a member of the New Castle Church of Christ and had previously been a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Salem and Dale Ridge Church of Christ in Daleville.
Jackie is survived by her sons, Bob Cantley and wife, Kim, and Jim Cantley and wife, Tina; and daughter, Mary Ann Keffer and husband, Lyndell; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Anita “Neenie” Pickielnok of Vermont, Mary Mitchell and husband, Jim of South Carolina, and Becky Thompson and husband, Jim of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Chaneka McIntyre and Tara Destefani. The family would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice.
Jackie loved Craig County and its mountains and its people, especially her neighbors, her church family, her retired teacher friends, and former students.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Paitsel Funeral Home with Bob Cantley officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Old Dominion Cemetery in Daleville.
