The Craig County baseball team will be looking for their first win this week when the Rockets play two Pioneer District opponents. Eastern Montgomery was scheduled to visit New Castle on Tuesday and Craig is at Parry McCluer on Thursday.
The Rockets dropped to 0-5 last week with a 17-4 loss to the host Green Wave in Narrows. Jaycob Wolfe, Hayden Reynold and Potter had Craig’s three hits and Wolfe scored three times. Reynolds smacked a double and Wolfe, Luke Potter, Matthew Lucas and Cam Huffman all had a stolen base.
“Luke Potter had a good day on the mound in his first ever game pitching,” said Craig coach Corey Smith. “We hit the ball decent, just couldn’t string runs and hits together to stay in the game.”
Reynolds started on the mound and struggled before Potter relieved with one out. The Green Wave plated 10 first inning runs to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 10-2 lead. Lucas pitched a scoreless fourth inning in relief but by that time the Rockets trailed 17-3.
Craig was scheduled to host Giles last Thursday but that game was postponed by inclement weather.
