Tire Amnesty Day and Hooked on Fishing are two events that the Board of Supervisors approved at its March 7, 2024 meeting at the Craig County Courthouse in New Castle.
Tire Amnesty Day will take place on April 6. The event would be held at the Craig County Transfer Station from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024. It is open to Craig County residents only. Businesses are not allowed to take part. The amnesty is limited to 10 tires per household for passenger car tires, lawn mower tires, and small truck tires. The supervisors agreed to use litter grant funding for amnesty day.
Craig County Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs Day will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2024 on Barbour’s Creek off Rt. 617. The creek will be stocked by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fishery and is for children age 15 and younger.
This portion of Barbour’s Creek will be closed from 5 p.m. May 10, 2024 until one-half hour after sunset on May 11, 2024.
The supervisors also learned that the county had met its recycling goals for the 2022 recycling rate, with a calculated recycling rate of 22.2 percent. The mandated recycling rate is 15 percent, according to the information in the supervisors’ packet.
