The National Society of the Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), founded in 1895, is the nation’s oldest, largest, patriotic youth organization. C.A.R. offers membership to anyone under the age of 22 who is lineally descended from an individual who provided military or civil service or gave material support to the cause of independence during the American Revolution.
The society trains good citizens, develops leaders, and promotes love of the United States of America and its heritage among young people. The Mill Mountain-Valley of Virginia Society is seeking members throughout the Roanoke Valley and adjacent counties. There are currently twenty-nine societies operating in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Each year, the Mill Mountain-Valley of Virginia Society will choose a project upon which to focus, raise awareness and financial support. Presently the Society meets a few times a year. Projects will include placing historical markers, preservation of historical sites, educational programs, and support of museums in their mission to preserve and educate about American History. Members participated in the Craig County Independence Day Parade in 2023 and plan to do so again this year. You can leave your mark by becoming a member!
This is a great time for young people to join this organization as our country prepares for its 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. If you know of a child or young adult who loves American History, and wants to learn more about C.A.R. membership, call Deborah Davis at 248-347-1982 or email [email protected].
