Two new agents at the Craig County Virginia Cooperative extension office were introduced during the most recent meeting of the county board of supervisors.
Jonathan Stanley is the new agriculture and natural resource extension agent for Craig and Allegheny counties. Stanley grew up in Roanoke and attended Patrick Henry High School, spending many summers with relatives in far Southwest Virginia. He then attended Virginia Western Community College, studying agriculture. After Virginia Western he transferred to Morehead State University in Kentucky and earned a degree in general agriculture
Stanley said in a statement that he has long been fascinated by agriculture. “Throughout my time in university, I was heavily involved with the university farm, working with cattle, sheep, swine and horses, as well as harvesting hay. My background is largely focused on breeding stock production of beef cattle and hair sheep, along with genetics.”
This past summer Stanley worked as a Virginia Cooperative Extension intern in the Dickinson County office. “This expense was instrumental in showing me the potential value of an agent. As someone who places a strong emphasis on community, I do not think there is a better resource suited to aid producers and local extension agents,” he said.
