Karly Potter has been named the 2023 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award recipient for Craig County High School. Craig Valley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution has sponsored this award to a deserving high school senior every year since 2010. The DAR Good Citizens Award is given to students who exemplify the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Only one senior from high schools all over the country are recognized as Good Citizens annually based on rules of the National Society, DAR.
Karly was enthusiastically nominated by her school faculty and administration. Her activities and awards include three years on Varsity Volleyball and Softball; 2022 Junior Class President; 2023 Senior Class President; 2022 Second Tea All District Pitcher (softball) and 2023 Honorable Mention (softball). In 2022 she was crowned Snow Queen for the Craig County High School Snow Court fundraiser, raising $488 for the cause.
Karly is currently enrolled in the Technical Education Program for Nurse Aide II, which upon completion will allow her to graduate with her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential. She plans to attend Virginia Western Community College and major in nursing and minor in child psychology to earn the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (RN) degree. She hopes to continue to a four-year school to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and ultimately work in the labor and delivery department of an accredited medical facility.
Karly currently works part time at Market Street Pharmacy and the Swinging Bridge Restaurant in Paint Bank. Those who know her well consistently describe her as kind, with an outstanding work ethic and always generous and helpful. For these reasons and more, the Craig Valley Chapter said it is delighted to name Karly Potter its 2023 DAR Good Citizens Award recipient. In addition to a pin and monetary award, she has earned the privilege of wearing the DAR Good Citizens red/white/blue cord at her high school graduation next May.
