Fall is upon us and the season for colds and flu sometimes visits many people.
This year, there will be a Drive-Thru Flu shot clinic in Craig County on September 29, from 4p.m. until 7p.m. at the Craig County Health Center. Appointments can be made by calling (540) 864-5136.
Flu shots at these events are provided at NO cost to the person. Those without health insurance are encouraged to attend.
They shared that if their supply of “no cost” flu vaccine is given out they will have an additional supply of flu vaccines on hand for all ages. Also:
- Please bring your insurance card to provide if requested
- They request that one not attend if you are sick with COVID-like symptoms
- Please wear a face covering when attending
- A parent or guardian must accompany those under the age of 18
Samara Lott, M.P.H. and Population Health Planning & Improvement Coordinator of the
Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts provided an update on COVID-19.
Here is the district’s COVID-19 situation update provided by Dr. Thomas Kerkering as of September 8:
- 2,657 cumulative COVID-19 cases in the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts
- 161 are currently active (64 active cases in Roanoke City Health District, 97 active cases in Alleghany Health District)
- 20 are new in the past 24 hours
- Alleghany: 73
- Botetourt: 252
- Covington: 25
- Craig: 27
- Roanoke City: 1,333
- Roanoke County: 752
- Salem: 175
- Unknown locality: 20
- 41 COVID-19 related deaths
- 16 people currently hospitalized
- The Health District is currently working on 9 outbreaks
