Jim Cady, Craig County’s Emergency Management Coordinator and Emergency Services Coordinator, recently shared that there were “no known new persons under investigation” this week in Craig.
For many surrounding counties, the same cannot be said. Local numbers show areas with 4,6, 7, 8, 23, 26, 29 and 44 cases while Craig remains at three.
The number of positive cases continues to grow in the Western district of the state and appears that the Roanoke and Alleghany Health Districts are increasing every week too.
“This is where we live,” said Cady. “We have been doing well in Craig, but as people get tired of masks, gloves and isolation and let their guard down this may not continue.”
He added, “We can only stay indoors so long so if you go out please at least protect yourselves with gloves, masks, social distancing and hand cleaner. Avoid group activities, stores full of people and restaurants or places that appear to not be wearing masks, gloves or washing hands with hand cleaner regularly.”
Cady also noted that money is dirty and when handling it, people should immediately disinfect their hands, especially before eating or drinking.
Dr. Molly Odell with the Health Department, explained that “We might expect the second wave later this fall to be worse than what we have right now if people relax our protective measures.”

Everyone is encouraged to continue to be conscious. Wash your hands often, and it’s important to avoid touching your face. Disinfect areas you touch when you have to go out from your own home. Also, disinfect your mailbox and lay your mail out for a day or two before opening.
Craig County residents are being very attentive to serving their personal families and community by continuing their efforts in ‘Building A Firewall’ of safety for everyone.
“Keep up the great work you’ve been doing and let’s fight this together in Craig,” Cady said before adding, “Rocket Strong.”
