Geneva Ferrell Leffel, 91, of Craig Springs, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30.
She was born on December 11, 1927, in Craig County to the late John Watt and Mila Missouri Caldwell Ferrell. As a child, Geneva learned the value of hard work and the benefits that came from it. She was no stranger to it as she assisted with everyday chores on the farm and canning her own food. She came to thoroughly enjoy them, along with her talent of sewing among other things. Geneva was certainly known for her cooking, as it eventually became her passion and employment. Staring as a cook and assistant in her teenage years, Geneva retired as the kitchen supervisor with Craig Springs Camp and Conference Center.
They were always considered as family to her! When she wasn’t found gardening, canning, cooking for the Camp, or a huge meal for her entire family (sometimes over 100 in attendance), you may find her at church. She was a faithful and active member of the Healing Springs Christian Church in Craig Springs where she enjoyed sharing her talents and faith with others. Above all, Geneva was a loving and kind soul to everyone she met. She never met a stranger and will certainly be missed!
In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Fredrick “Fred” Leffel; brother, Wesley Ferrell; and sisters, Mary Ferrell Ould and Mayme Sue Ferrell.
Family remaining to cherish her memory include her special niece; known as a daughter, Lynne Ferrell May and husband, Lucky of Craig Springs; special great-nephews; she considered as grandchildren, Jacob Lawrence May and his children, Landon and Laikan of Craig Springs; Gregory Eugene May (Savannah) and their children, Waylon, Adeline, and Wyatt; and Christopher Thomas May and fiancée, Page Paitsel, all of New Castle, Va.; Nieces, Minta Piper, Lucille Ferrell Spangler, Nora Ferrell Bell (Eddie), and Betty Ferrell Stanger. Numerous other great-nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services to honor Geneva’s life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Craig Healing Springs Christian Church at 6 Grannys Branch Rd, New Castle, Va. 24127; or the Johns Creek Volunteer Fire Department; 116 Dicks Creek Rd, New Castle, VA 24127.
