Barbara “Jeanie” Deisher Hipes, 76, of Eagle Rock, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, after a courageous battle with dementia. She was preceded in death by her parents, W. Fay and Mary Deisher; and husband of 43 years, Jay Hugh Hipes, Sr. until his death in 2015.
She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Being faithful to her Lord, she was active in her church throughout her life serving in numerous capacities. She retired from the Botetourt County School System after more than 20 years of service.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law; Jay, Jr. and Elizabeth Hipes; Mark and Peyton Hipes; grandchildren, Jay, III “Trey,” Charlotte, Esther, and Virginia Hipes.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Marsh, were held at 2 pm on Sunday, June 9, in the Longdale Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday in the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home.
