Helen Louise Abbott, 74, of Catawba, passed away January 8, 2019, at home in the loving care of her family.
Helen came into this world on May 22, 1944 and lived her entire life in Craig County. She was born with the gifts of benevolence, service, a desire to fight for the underdog, art and music. In addition to serving her family and sharing her artistic and musical talents with them, she served the community through being a member of the Craig County School Board, a member and Chairperson of the Craig County Board of Supervisors as well as being a co-founder of the Craig County Historical Society and Craig Valley NSDAR. Privately, her home was open to all and many lives were changed because of her generous heart.
Surviving family members are husband Ronnie Looney, sons and wives Jim and Kim Looney, David and Karen H. Looney, Mike and Rebecca Looney, grand-children Emily (Grant), Jonathan (Hannah), Sara, Meaghan and great-grandson Liam and another due any day, step grand and great-grandchildren Amy, Tori, Eric, Levi and Jacob; sister Anita and husband Johnny McCormick and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend Sharon Tarpley-Looney. Helen was greeted in heaven by her parents Luther and Ruby Abbott and daughter-in-law Karen Wallace Looney.
A memorial service, officiated by her son Jim Looney, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 19 at Grace Assembly of God 5530 Catawba Valley Dr, Catawba, VA 24070
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Craig County Historical Society at PO Box 206, New Castle, VA 24127.
