Elizabeth Thurston passed peacefully at her home in Oriskany on Thursday, December 27, 2018.


Elizabeth was born in Jenkins, Kentucky, to Harmon and Vergie Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald H. Thurston, and brothers and sisters George Hall, Clarence Hall, Ernest Hall, Cora Ratliff, Ora Fleming, Velva Leach, Mary Goldworthy and Opal Marie Greene.

She is survived by her son Gerald H. Thurston, Jr., and his wife Leigh Ann Thurston, daughters Janet H. Thurston and Judith H. Thurston, grandson Gerald H. Thurston, III, granddaughter Ruth R. Thurston and by many nephews, nieces and cousins.

During World War II, Elizabeth supported the war effort by working at the Radford Army Arsenal and at the Norfolk Navy Yard. Elizabeth graduated from the University of Tulsa with a Bachelor of Arts and a law degree.

Elizabeth was a co-founder of the Somerset Hills Baptist Church in New Jersey, a co-founder of the Botetourt County Civic League Association, President of the Eagle Rock Elementary School Home and School Association and was active as an advisor to the forensics program at James River High School.

Funeral Services, officiated by Pastor Gary Burch, were held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 30, at Crossroads Church at 21892 Craig Creek Road in Craig County. The family received friends at the Crossroads Church following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crossroads Church, 21892 Craig Creek Rd. in New Castle.
