The Craig County Fall Festival will take place this year on October 13 in downtown New Castle, and organizers are looking forward to a great year.
Over ninety spaces are already rented on the street, and antique car owners have been talking about coming since early spring.
The stage this year is donated by Zimmerman’s Equipment. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:00 a.m. and feature Craig County High School students performing the National Anthem.
At 9:30 a.m., New Castle School of Dance will entertain on the pavement. Local favorites Blue Connection and Eastern Divide will provide bluegrass music throughout the morning. At 1:00 p.m., Cadillac Ranch will perform, followed by Phat Boyz Band at 2:15 p.m. The day will conclude with more bluegrass by Steve Carper, Jr. before the popular raffle drawings begin around 4:30 p.m.
Throughout the day, the Old Brick Hotel and two cabins will be open. The Holstein Cabin is near completion and will not be open for the day, but festivalgoers are encouraged to take pictures of the exterior.
A welcome attraction for young and old alike will be Little Critter’s Petting Zoo, with a great variety of domestic and farm animals. Jean Lewis also expects to return and offer professional face-painting and balloon sculpture.
A country breakfast in the Hotel dining room will begin at 7:30 a.m. Self-serve lunch of beans and cornbread will follow. Every room of the hotel is furnished with local antiques in different themes. Volunteers will be operating the stand-alone loom in the third-floor textile room. This loom was used on Sinking Creek in the 1800s; residents shared their time and materials to make rugs and blankets.
