Gracie Mabel McCormick Love, 90, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2018. She was born on October 21, 1927, to the late Herman Omega McCormick and Blanche Mabel Crowder McCormick of Fincastle, Virginia.
She was baptized May 30, 1945, at Oak Grove Johns Creek. Mabel was a member of Paxton’s Chapel Christian Church in New Castle, Virginia, and attended the First Baptist Church, while living in Stanley, North Carolina. Garlock/Chicago Rawhide employed her until retirement.
Mabel loved all the children and enjoyed gardening, reading, crafts and trips to the mountains and the beach with family and friends. Survivors include her son, Johnny Love; daughters, Wanda Love Candelaria and Sue Morris and husband Lindsay; brother, Theodore “Ted” McCormick and wife Margaret; sister-in-law, Katherine McCormick; and many grand, great grand and great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffery Lewis Love and Anthony Ray Love; sisters, Beatrice, Lorene, Janet and Violet; and brothers, Eugene and Cyrus McCormick.
The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. this past Tuesday at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. A celebration of life service, officiated by the Rev. Walt Windley, was held at 2 p.m. on July 24 at the funeral home following the visitation.
