Craig County Junior 4-H Camp was held at the W. E. Skelton 4-H Educational & Conference Center at Smith Mountain Lake during the week of June 4-8, 2018. A total of 41 Craig 4-H’ers attended camp and enjoyed sharing the week with other campers from Patrick and Pulaski Counties.
They attended classes, met new friends and learned new skills. Campers were able to enjoy new classes such as Advanced Sports, Airplanes and Rocketry, Bath & Body, Bead Yourself, Campfire Cooking, Fish Taxidermy, Glass Art, Robotics, Sewing as well as old favorites like Archery, Arts and Crafts, Basic Horsemanship, Canoeing, Climbing, Fishing, Kayaking, Multi-Media and Outdoor Adventures among many others.
There was something for everyone at 4-H Camp. Some of the special events included “Cool Sunglasses Lunch,” “Super Hero and Princess Day,” “Crazy Hat Lunch,” and “Pajama Breakfast.” Carnival Night, Talent Show, Neon Dance Party and Drive-In Movie added many fun activities.
Emily Ross, a 4-H adult volunteer, provided supervision for our camp this summer. We are very appreciative of Emily’s support during this week. We would not have been able to have 4-H Camp this summer without her leadership. We were also very fortunate to have a hard-working group of Craig teen leaders – Morgan Beane, Jenna Bostic, Jessie Reed, Hunter Ashley, Dylan Crawford, Gabriel Devinney, Dalton Henderson and Chris Lafon. Each trained teen did a fantastic job working with their assigned campers and making sure our camp ran smoothly. Craig Counselors-in-training (Shelby Devinney, Sara Drewry, Abigayle Price, Bryce Drake and Haiden Huffman) were a welcome addition to our group.
The majority of the 4-H’ers at the camp were able to attend because of the generosity of the following individuals and businesses to the Junior 4-H Camp Scholarship Fund. Craig County Extension staff and Craig 4-H’ers want to thank all these companies and individuals for making Junior 4-H Camp a reality for our local youth. Your support is very much appreciated.
