Together again, Shirley and Hoyt were two of the best people who loved each other to the end and loved both of their special needs children. They lived a happy life as they cared for their family. Some called it a burden, but they called it love and blessings.
On May 5, 2018, the Lord called Shirley Hannah McCartney home to her loving family. She fought the good fight to the end! She will be missed terribly, but at least we know she is a happy lady now.
She was preceded by her loving husband, Grady Hoyt McCartney; children, Juan Marie McCartney and Daniel Hoyt McCartney; four brothers as well as her mom and dad, Howard and Lucille Hannah, that she searched for towards the end of her life journey.
She is survived by her two sisters, Hannah Kaufman and husband Herb of California and Linda Hannah Davis and husband Gary of Salem; her exceptional caregiver for eight years, Beulah Brown; nephew, Justin Davis; and family members Holly, Taylor, Ashlyn, nephew Jonathan Shelor, Katie and her children.
Shirley’s niece and nephew did their best to care and carry out all of the wishes of the family. Steve, Cindy and Zach taught us how to love a special child. Many nieces, nephews and cousins are left to cherish the memories of Shirley.
Shirley was remembered at a service on Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. with a visitation which started an hour earlier. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hebron Church in New Castle or Good Shepard Hospice in Roanoke, Virginia. Thanks to all who were there for us in these last 40 days and special thank you to nurses Donna, Pam, Joanna, Wendy and NP Tonya from Gentle Shepard Hospice.
