The countdown is happening. By the time you read this, it will be less than seven days, two hours and 40 minutes till the big Giving Day on March 14.
Roanoke Valley Gives is an initiative of Foundation for Roanoke Valley. The goal is to raise funding for participating Roanoke Valley nonprofits in a 24-hour period while bringing attention to the work and worth of each participating organization. All donations to the participating organizations on this website are tax-deductible. The mission of Foundation is: “Enabling people who love their community to easily give back.”
Why would you want to donate money online at www.rvgives.givebig.org? Well, several worthy local organizations have registered. Secondly, if everyone gives a little, these non-profits can continue to operate and provide their services to the community. Let’s face it; nonprofits are what make our community a great place to live whether it’s your church, your library or your field of dreams. Thirdly, it’s easy and fast. It’s not just the end of year financial support; it’s continued support that organizations need to grow their work. March is the perfect time to be generous and support something you love.
This particular effort for the library will be focused on raising money to improve the property that you generously helped us purchase. Currently, the lot is vacant, and the wall needs safety improvements. In concert with our idea that the Craig County Public Library should be a welcoming place, we wish to make this area safe and welcoming to patrons and teens. We are recruiting teens to plant flower beds, paint a beautiful mural on the wall and possibly install some outdoor games and seating. A fence along the wall and a tree sculpture are envisioned. The tree will represent the “Growing Our Community Together.”
Engaging youth artists and volunteers will give them a sense of ownership and investment in their community. We can always use more youthful energy and enthusiasm! Do you support teen engagement in the community? The library project is estimated to be $2,500 extra cost above our library budget. Can you help us on March 14? We are grateful for your continued support.
