The unsung heroes at McCleary are our custodians. They arrive before anyone else and stay well after the last teacher has finally gone home for the day. They keep our building clean and combat the latest round of germs that spread like wildfire in the classrooms. Our heroes are Mr. Darrell Frango and Mr. James Thomas.
Mr. Frango has worked at McCleary for 23 years. He has lived in Craig County his entire life. He is thankful to have a job that is close to home. As he put it,” I like working around the kids and seeing the smile on their faces and working with the staff at the school.” When he’s not working at the school, Mr. Frango enjoys cleaning and detailing cars for other people. He also puts out a very festive display of Christmas lights every year for everyone to enjoy.
Mr. James Thomas has worked at McCleary for five years. He and his wife Debbie, who is a long-term sub at McCleary, just adopted a five-year-old little girl. His passion is working on, restoring and racing street rod cars. He also loves to customize vehicles. He has a big family with nine grandchildren, and a new one on the way in July, and one great-grandchild. He stated, “The best thing about working in Craig is you see how the kids grow up from McCleary to the high school. They change so fast. I like the small-town atmosphere and no crazy traffic.” Mr. Thomas is a big fan of car shows, the Eagles and Alabama music and old church hymns. He loves church and simple things in life.
