As the third seed the Maroons earned a home game for the quarterfinals, and they were scheduled to host Randolph-Macon on Wednesday night. Virginia Wesleyan is the top seed and the Marlins had eighth seeded Eastern Mennonite in Virginia Beach. Other first round games found fifth seeded Washington & Lee at fourth seeded Bridgewater and seventh seeded Shenandoah as second seeded Lynchburg.
The semifinals and finals are Saturday and Sunday at the highest remaining seed after Wednesday’s quarterfinals. Theoretically the Maroons could host, but only if they beat Randolph-Macon and both Virginia Wesleyan and Lynchburg were the victims of upsets.
The Maroons come in at 10-6-1 after winning their regular season finale at Bridgewater last Saturday. The RC women took a 1-0 win in overtime when Meagan Ryan scored just 37 seconds into the overtime period after the two teams battled to a scoreless tie through regulation.
Chris Martin made seven saves in net for RC, including five in the second-half to keep the game scoreless. BC held an 18-6 advantage in shots and held a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
