Glenvar battled to a 28-26 win over the Group 4A Terriers in the opening set, pulling it out to set the tone for the match. The Highlanders won the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-21, to put it away.
Abby Cairns had seven kills on the front line without an error. That’s been a point of emphasis for coach Basil Conner.
“You can’t score if you hit it out of bounds,” he said. “We’ve been concentrating on keeping the ball in play.”
Kiera Omberg had 11 kills and Hannah Green chipped in with 10. Katherine Ward and Allison Clark had 15 assists each.
The Highlanders improved to 5-2 with the win. Last Thursday at home they defeated Covington in five sets, again pulling out a close one in the opener. After winning the first set 25-23 the Cougars won the next two, 25-15 and 25-22. Glenvar then turned it back around to win the last two, 25-22 and 15-13.
Clark had 29 assists and 11 kills for Glenvar and Green had a big night with 18 kills.
Glenvar had a match with Carroll County postponed on Tuesday. Tonight the Highlanders are at James River for a big Three Rivers District showdown.
