Former Craig County valedictorian graduates from Virginia Tech

James Wright

James Wright

James Wright, the 2013 Valedictorian of Craig County High School, graduated from Virginia Tech on May 12 with Magna Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

His senior design project consisted of seven senior students. They designed an airlines compliant travel shooting table with a seat for the US Paralympic air shooting team which won ‘Best in Show’ for overall design.

The engineering program encourages the students to participate in the co-op program which gives the students real life working experiences.  James worked in Huntington, West Virginia, for Precision Cast Parts Corporation – Special Parts Metal plant for six months. He also worked an internship last summer for Michelin Tire in Greenville, South Carolina. These opportunities broadened his skill set which helped him obtain a job after graduation. James accepted a mechanical engineer position with Innovative Refrigeration Systems in Lyndhurst, Virginia.

James is the son of Mike and Lisa Wright of Catawba. The grandson of Wayne and Billie Wright, Calvin and Lou Ramsey of Roanoke and Joyce Ramsey of Vinton.
