The Craig County softball team swept a doubleheader from Bath County in Hot Springs last week. The Rockets won the first game, 16-2, then took the nightcap, 5-1.
Olivia Garman pitched both ends of the doubleheader for Craig and also hit three home runs. In the first game she pitched a two-hitter and struck out nine in just four innings before the game was called. At the plate she was three-for-four with a home run and three runs batted in.
Garman had plenty of support from her teammates, as the Rockets had 13 hits for the game. Kaylee Pauley had two hits and five runs batted in as she stroked a triple with the bases loaded. Mackenzie Hutchinson had three hits, including a double, and drove in two and Hannah Lipes had two hits and two runs batted in.
The Rockets put on a power display in the second game with three home runs. Garman hit two more and Tierrney Zysk hit her second tater of the season. Lipes also drove in a run and Garman one-hit the Chargers over five innings on the mound, fanning a half dozen.
The sweep lifted the Rockets to 5-7 on the season and they were scheduled to play at Eastern Montgomery on Tuesday. On Friday the girls are at Parry McCluer, and next Monday they’ll play host to Covington.
