Tips for internet security:
Be Skeptical
If you receive an email from an entity claiming to be your bank or credit card company, asking you to click through to get to your account, don’t! Go directly to their site by typing the URL into the address bar. Using a debit card for on line purchases could give hackers access to your bank account, whereas a credit card has more consumer protection. In addition, use only one credit card for all on line purchases.
Don’t Overshare
Some things people post on social media can compromise safety on line and off line! If you share your birthday, don’t share the year. Information such as mother’s maiden name and favorite pets can give hackers answers to security questions.
Arm Yourself
Secure your devices with strong passcodes. Change your passwords at least every six months. Use security software on your computer and run regular scans. Keep sensitive documents such as tax returns and medical records on an external hard drive and plug into it only when you need to access these documents.
When Away from Home
Avoid using unsecured networks and never use these for financial transactions. You can use your computer to store documents but you should use an external drive like a flash drive and you should shred the documents once they are downloaded.
Recycle and Redact
Before donating your old electronics to charity or anyone, delete all data! Instructions and apps walk you through this process and it’s an important part of keeping personal identity out of the hands of strangers, ill-intentioned or otherwise.

May 15 – Photo contest deadline- Theme is Spring in Craig County. Submit photos to [email protected]. Winner’s photo will be displayed in the library and the entries will be shown during the annual Friends meeting.
May 18 – Friends of the Library Annual meeting with author program, selection of Trustees and refreshments.
May 29 – famous Library Ladies Bake Sale at the Memorial Day celebration on the porch of the Old Brick Hotel.
