After being in business for four and a half years, the Craig County Artisan Center on New Castle’s Main Street has closed permanently. Closure was necessitated by a lack of sufficient volunteer workers and a slowdown in sales.
The Center opened in June of 2012 under the leadership of Holly Wadey and Diane Givens, residents of the county, with the purpose of providing a venue where local artists and crafters could display and sell their products. The Center operated as a non-profit entirely by volunteers, primarily the artists and crafters themselves.
Support from the residents and visitors to the county has been very much appreciated by everyone associated with the Artisan Center. Several of the artisans have their items for sale in the Mountain Crafters shop across from the General Store in Paint Bank.
