
The Craig County girls will be looking to get back in the win column this week when they host two Pioneer District basketball games. Both are doubleheaders with the boys.
Craig was scheduled to host Bath County on Tuesday but results were too late for publication. On Thursday Highland comes to town for a girls-boys doubleheader, with the girls playing first at 5:30 pm.
The Rockets opened the season with two wins but then lost their next four, including three games to open 2026 last week. They were at Giles to open the New Year on January 5 and dropped a 67-47 decision despite a big night from Emily Smith, who filled up the box score with 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Natalie Fisher had 11 points and 14 boards, Daileigh Donithan had nine points, Jenna Boitnotte had six and Kammie Fisher had three steals and three blocks for the Rockets.
A night later Craig hosted Eastern Montgomery and fell 49-31. Smith had 15 points and seven rebounds, Natalie Fisher had 11 rebounds to go with four points and Kammie Fisher had nine rebounds.
Last Thursday the girls hosted Parry McCluer and fell 57-40 despite 29 points by Smith, who also had 10 rebounds and six steals. Natalie Fisher had seven points and five boards.
Next week the girls will be at Glenvar to try and sweep the season series from the Highlanders, who are on a 50 game losing streak through last week. A week from tonight, on January 21, Craig is at Narrows.
