Mary Sue Caldwell Looney, 99 of New Castle, died on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Susie as she was known to her family and friends, was born in New Castle, VA, on May 10, 1926. She attended school in New Castle, VA and Hamlet, N.C. Susie joined the New Castle Christian Church in Nov. 1936. During World War II, she was employed with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Co. where she worked for 43 continuous years.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Wayne Ruble Looney; parents, Cyrus & Bessie Matthews Caldwell; brothers, Eugene, Rudolph “Tom” & Wagner; and sister, Shirley. She is survived by sister, Sallie Amato; numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins; special friends, Judy Looney, Betsy Daniel, Robert Moran, Ginger Markin, her daughter, Sabrina, Mary McDaniel, and Rick Pappa.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Huffman Memorial Park with Pastor Bill Frazier officiating. Visitation will be held 4-6 PM Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Paitsel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the New Castle Rescue Squad.
