The Craig County boys are going to have to wait until the New Year for their first win of the basketball season. The Rockets dropped their last two games before the holidays and are 0-4 as the 2025 portion of the schedule comes to a close.

Craig dropped a 70-38 game at Narrows on December 18. The Green Wave jumped to a 20 point lead by the half and won going away.

“Had a tough night at Narrows,” said Craig coach Jimmy Fisher. “They were pretty explosive and couldn’t miss. We play incredibly hard. We’re tough, we’re athletic and we’re scrappy but we aren’t shooting the ball well from the field or the free throw line. I think we will play them tougher the second time around.”

Caleb Cregger led the Rockets with 15 points and Luke Potter had eight.

The Rockets were back home for the second half of a back-to-back on Friday, December 19, and fell 51-37 to visiting James River. Craig led 9-7 after the first quarter but got outscored 16-1 in the second quarter.

“I think we were a little leg weary from the Narrows game the night before,” said Fisher. “We couldn’t put the ball in the hoop and gave up some easy baskets in the second quarter. We played tough again in the third and fourth quarters.”

The Rockets are now off until January 5th when they host Giles, then travel to Pocahontas, West Virginia a night later.

“If we start shooting the ball a little better, box out more consistently, and keep playing as hard as we do, I really think we can compete with everyone on our schedule.”
