Mayor Lenny MacDonald opened the recent Town Council meeting on Monday, February 17 by welcoming visitor Scott R. Gabrielson, the newly arrived pastor at Craig Valley Baptist Church. Council members Tommy Zimmerman, Vice Mayor Robert Lee, Robyn Foster and Nina Davis, clerk/treasurer, were present. The minutes and payables were approved.
Mike Kendall of Mike’s Dog House shared some of the news about his business changes. Kendall purchased the Hive property at the corner of Rt 311 and Rt 615 in January. He provided the council with details about the upgrades planned for the property as he develops it into a “fast food and ice cream” place. He requested that the council visit the property at night and consider adding lights to the dark corner. Kendall anticipates opening sometime in April, with hours 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The established Mike’s Dog House location near the Town Park will be leased or removed, after a period of time agreed to mutually by Kendall and the Town Council.
In other matters, the budget draft for July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026 is being reviewed by all council members. Requests for donations from the Town Council should be submitted as soon as possible with the required information for consideration. The annual donation for the “Hooked on Fishing not on Drugs” event of $100 was approved for the Craig County Sheriff’s Department. The next Town Council meeting will be Monday, March 17 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall building.
