Danny Wayne Kendall, 80 of New Castle, VA, born September 27, 1944, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd W. Kendall; mother, Emma Francis Ager; stepmother, Alice Francisco; sister, Florene “Flo” Watts & husband, Dan; brothers, F. William “Bill” Kendall & wife, Jane Paxton, Harry Robert “Bob” Kendall & wife, Phyllis Welch, Clifton Theodore “Teddy” Kendall; brothers-in-law, Charles Harris and Ira “Junior” Midkiff; sister-in-law, Mary Jean Wilburn; nephews, Michael Sutton & Patrick Kendall; and niece Sherry Harris.
He is survived by wife, Betty Semones; son, Danny “Wayne” Kendall, Jr.; step-granddaughter, Desiree Davis & daughter, Faith; step-grandson, Alex Potter & daughter, Malaya; sisters, Nancy K. Midkiff, Vickey K. Maxey & husband Eugene, Mary K. Harris, & Ruth K. Britt & husband, Mike; brothers, Donald Gene “Don” Kendall & wife Carolyn Bell, James Walter “Jimmy” Kendall & wife, Debbie McFalls, and Everett Eugene “Gene” Kendall; several nieces & nephews.
Danny served in the U.S. Army from February 1963 – May 1983, retiring after 20 years of service. Combat duties 1965 in the Dominican Republic during a rebel uprising and 1 tour of duty in Vietnam in 1966. He was a member of the VFW Post from 1967 till his death. He was a paratrooper and cook while in the Army and served as post commander from 1988-1990 at the VFW Post #4491.
Danny was a member of the Crossroads Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and later and Elder. Danny was proud of his service to God and country. He was an outdoor person and full of life, loved to hunt, fish, and enjoyed planting and working in his garden during the summer. He was a very loving and special person.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Paitsel Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Looney and Steve Minnix officiating. The family will receive friends 1-2 PM before the service. A Graveside service at the Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA will be held at a later date.
