Keep feedin’ that cow, it’s almost time to pick a winner.
“Cow Patty Bingo” comes to Criag County Saturday and there’s still time to get involved before it hits the fan; or the field we should say. There’s still time to get a slice of the pie.
Craig County baseball players have been pounding the streets selling chances to this Saturday’s Bingo game, and they’ve been quite successful. The baseball team is having a find raiser that will send the team on a trip to Florida.
Cow Patty bingo is a chance game in which a cow relieves itself on the Rocket football field, which has ben sectioned off in squares. If the cow dumps its lunch on your square, you’re a lucky winner.
The promotion has been a big success. The $1 tickets, for a $200 prize, went so well the club started a second bingo “card” for $10 a square. That game will pay off $1000 and only about 40 squares were left at the beginning of this week.
The action begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at Craig County high School, and it will be more than just a trip to the outhouse for some bovine. Refreshments will be sold and the team is going all out to make this a big social event.
“I’m excited about how well this has been received,” said Craig County baseball coach Mark Baetz. “The players have really been hustling, and the people of Craig County have been receptive.”
Baetz has also been hawking the billboard signs at the baseball field, and if he can finish selling the bingo chances and sell three new signs, he’ll have enough money for all current projects. That includes the new infield surface on the baseball diamond, plane tickets for the March trip to Florida, and ground transportation in Florida.
“We got a great deal on the tickets to Florida,” said Baetz, who will be taking 15 players to the Doyle Baseball School as part of the Rockets spring training. “Normally the tickets sell for $350, but because the competition has been so great we got them for $150.”
The team will be leaving on March 13 for the week of practice at the professional facility. The Rockets will have two weeks of practice in New Castle before leaving, as baseball practice begins Monday of next week.
“We had a meeting and 38 kids showed up,” said Baetz. “I’m still looking for a junior varsity coach, and I’m hoping we can get someone to volunteer. Anyone interested should come see me at the school.”
Or, talk to Mark Saturday as the cow digests her lunch and decides who will go home a little bit richer.
