Giles High School will be the site of the Region 1C track meet today, Wednesday May 22nd. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 am.
The Rockets participated in the Pioneer District meet at Giles last week. Narrows swept the meet with the Green Wave boys scoring 200 points and outpointing second place Eastern Montgomery, who had 145. The Narrows girls also outscored second place East Mont, 173 to 112. Craig had 20 points in the boys’ meet and 14 in the girls’ meet.
Craig had a district champion in senior Tyler Fitzpatrick, who won the discus with a toss of 140’ 4”. Tyler also took a third in the shot put, putting the shot 40’ 6.5”
Several other boys also placed for the Rockets. Carter Calfee was fifth in the 100 meter dash and Caleb Fields took fifth in the discus. Calfee was also eighth in the 200 while Fields was 13th in the shot put.
Other highlights for Craig included a seventh in the 200 and a ninth in the 100 by Jaycob Wolfe. Brad Arthurs took eighth in the 400 and 10th in the long jump while Wyatt Huffman was 10th in both the 100 and 400 meter dashes.
Casey Hutchinson and Tristan Dooley were 12th and 13th in the 200. Peyton Fields was 10th in the discus and 16th in the shot put and freshman Carter Price took 14th in the shot.
For the girls, freshman Kailyn Jones placed in three events. Kailyn was third in the 400 meters in 1:07.9, fourth in the 200 at 29.64 and fifth in the 100 in 14.30. Brook Wright took two sixth place finishes with a 65’9” effort in the discus and a 23’ 5.5” heave in the shot put.
For this week’s region meet athletes will have to finish in the top three to advance to state or meet a standard. Fitzpatrick has already qualified for the state meet with his season performances.
The state meet is scheduled for May 31 and June 1 at James Madison University.
