The Craig County softball team was on the verge of a win last week in Narrows when a game against Narrows was called due to darkness. Craig led 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning when the umpire halted the game.
“We wound up getting a late start at Narrows because of a field trip delaying players,” said Craig coach Elaina Wolfe-Carper. “I think the plan right now is to finish that game when Narrows comes to us.
Kammie Fisher was having a big day on the mound when the game was interrupted. She faced 21 batters and only gave up two hits and no earned runs while striking out 11 batters.
The Green Wave pitcher kept the Rockets at bay until Nevaeh Hypes broke things open with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, driving in two runs to tie the game. Daileigh Donithan scored on a passed ball to give Craig the lead and the Rockets scored three more times before there wasn’t enough light to see the ball. Hayleigh Flowers and Kammie Fisher also had an RBI each.
“It took us a bit to make adjustments to their pitcher, but once we did I was very pleased with how the girls put the ball in play,” said Wolfe-Carper.
The Rockets were scheduled to host Eastern Montgomery on Tuesday, and on Thursday they head to Parry McCluer for a Pioneer District game.
