The Glenvar girls swept the season softball series with Craig County last week when the Highlanders visited New Castle and took a 14-1 win. Glenvar had won the previous meeting in Roanoke County in the season-opener for both teams.
Kammie Fisher pitched a strong game for the Rockets despite the lopsided score. She struck out seven and none of the runs Glenvar scored were earned.
“We just could not back her up and make basic plays on defense,” said Craig coach Elaine Wolfe-Carper.
Catcher Lily Hutchison had a stand-out game for Craig. She had a double and a steal and scored Craig’s only run, and behind the plate she threw out three Highlanders attempting to steal. Hayleigh Flowers had two hits and stole three bases for the Rockets.
Craig’s jayvee team played two games last week against East Mont and Highland.
“They struggled, but are a young team and are showing improvement,” said Wolfe-Carper. “Aleah Owens had several good hits against Highland.”
The girls are off this week for spring break. The next game is April 2nd at home against Narrows.
