The Craig County basketball teams have high hopes for 2024 as they return from break next week to play the lion’s portion of their schedule. First, however, the boys will play in a special tournament at Brookville High this week.
The Rockets are entered in a four-team tournament at Brookville hosted by Bees coach Cameron Shepherd. Cameron is a former head coach of Craig County who played for William Byrd High School. He still keeps track of how the Rockets are doing.
The tournament in Brookville begins on Thursday, December 28. Staunton River will play Appomattox in the first game at 5:30 pm with the Rockets taking on the host Brookville team at 7 pm. On Friday there is a third place game for the opening night losers at 5:30 pm, and the Thursday winners will play for the championship at 7 pm Friday.
The boys will open the new year with two home games. They’ll host Giles on Wednesday, January 3rd, then Bath County comes to New Castle a day later on January 4th.
The Craig County girls will have over two weeks off between games as they last played on December 16 and won’t play again until January 3rd, when they travel to Giles. Then its six more days off before the Rockets play at home on January 9th against Eastern Montgomery.
