With the Virginia High School League spring season finally concluded the Pioneer District announced All-District teams in baseball, softball and soccer. Craig County was well-represented in each.
In baseball Rocket senior Zachary Peters was named to the all-district first team as a pitcher. Second team selections were junior Matthew Lucas at Utility, junior Drew Duncan as designated hitter and sophomore Jaycob Wolfe in the outfield. The Rockets also had two boys named Honorable Mention, junior Hayden Reynolds and freshman Joseph Charette.
Narrows took home the top honors, as Carson Crigger was named the Player of the Year and Green Wave coach Chris Helvey is the Pioneer Coach of the Year.
In softball Rocket senior Sara Jones was chosen as one of three first team pitchers. The Rockets had five players named to the second team, including senior Annabelle Gregory as the “at large” choice and senior Hannah Ratliffe in the outfield. The other three second teamers are all underclassmen, junior Lily Hutchison at catcher and freshmen sisters Kammie Fisher as a pitcher and Kallie Fisher at second base. Two Rockets are Honorable Mention, juniors Randalyn Taylor and Karly Potter.
Covington swept the district’s top honors in softball as junior Kayla Bartley was named Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year and the Cougars’ staff won the Coach of the Year award.
In soccer the Rockets had two first team selections, senior Bryce Drake at midfield and senior Skyler Rodriques on defense. Senior Alex Drake is a second team selection from Craig at forward and the Rockets had two on Honorable Mention, junior Ava Greenway and sophomore Montana Stein.
Talan Bruce of Eastern Montgomery was named the Pioneer Player of the Year. Rusty Bragg of Bath County is the Coach of the Year.
