Marian Caldwell Stephens, 92, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, May 20, at Salem Lewis Gale Medical Center. She was born January 26, 1928 at her home place in New Castle, and was the daughter of the late J. Riley and Lena Mann Caldwell.
Baptized at the Chestnut Grove Christian Church, she regularly attended Craig Valley Baptist Church. Actively involved in farming her entire life, she preferred to stay to herself, except when she would go riding around, which she enjoyed. She attended Radford University’s Nursing Program and worked for many years in the lab at Celanese.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Stephens and brother, J. Early Caldwell.
She was the last of her generation. Left to cherish her memory are her son, James R. Stephens, New Castle; special nieces and nephews, Joyce and Will Vest, Christiansburg; Richard and Donya Stephens, Riner, C.W. and Irma Stephens, Pearisburg; Judy and Edwin Hutchison, Ripplemead, Patty and John Lindstrom, Quinton, VA; Debbie and Rusty Maddox, Hampton; Karen Zorumski, Chesapeake; and special friends, Wade Dudding, Bill Wilcher and Marian Trumbo.
Strictly following the current assembly restrictions, there will be no public services at this time. Marian will be laid to rest beside her husband at Huffman Memorial Park in New Castle.
