Craig County Junior 4-H Camp was recently held at the W. E. Skelton 4-H Educational & Conference Center at Smith Mountain Lake during the week of June 3 -7, 2019. A total of 42 Craig 4-H’ers attended camp and enjoyed sharing the week with campers from Patrick and Pulaski Counties. They attended classes, met new friends and learned new skills.
Campers were also able to enjoy new classes such as Advanced Sports, Airplanes and Rocketry, Beginning Sports, Campfire Cooking, Fish Taxidermy, and Multi-Media/Tech World, as well as old favorites like Archery, Arts and Crafts, Basic Horsemanship, Canoeing, Climbing, Fishing, Kayaking, Outdoor Adventures, Performing Arts, Polar Bear Swim, Riflery, Small Animal Science, Swimming, and Tie-Dye to name a few.
There was something for everyone at 4-H Camp. Some of the special events included Carnival Night, Cool Sunglasses Lunch, Super Hero and Princess Day, Crazy Hat Lunch, Pajama Breakfast, and Big & Crazy Hair Lunch, Talent Show, Neon Dance Party, and Drive-In Movie added a lot of fun activities.
Emily Ross, 4-H Adult Volunteer, provided supervision for the camp again this summer. “We cannot thank Emily enough for her support during this week. We would not have been able to have 4-H Camp this summer without her leadership. We were also very fortunate to have a hard-working group of Craig Teen Leaders – Morgan Beane, Shelby Devinney, Jennifer Fitzpatrick, Abigayle Price, Jessie Reed, Hunter Ashley, Dylan Crawford, Gabriel Devinney, Bryce Drake, Haiden Huffman, Dalton Henderson, Chris Lafon, and Cameron Shell,” Submitted by Andy Allen, Craig County Extension Agent. “Each of these trained teens did a wonderful job working with their assigned campers and making sure our camp ran smoothly.”
Most of the 4-H’ers at camp were able to attend because of the generosity of the following individuals and businesses to the Junior 4-H Camp Scholarship Fund.
