Saturday, July 14, will be the day and Chantilly Farm the place to power up and turn on to renewable energy at Floyd Energy Fest.
Sponsored by SustainFloyd and Apple Ridge Farm, Floyd Energy Fest is an all-day event (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) with speakers, exhibits, vendors and food. Hear experts present fascinating information on solarizing your home, using energy efficient systems, building green residential structures and producing power with wind energy in Virginia. Check out a Tesla electric car, presented by Sustainable Blacksburg.
Apple Ridge Farm will offer tours throughout the day to experience the E-base USA: Blue Ridge…an off-grid solar and wind-powered classroom, housed in a 1917 boxcar donated by the National Railway Historical Society. There will be a fascinating nature walk and a kid zone for children with crafts and activities. SustainFloyd’s Solar Voltzwagon, a solar-powered wagon that provides electricity for many local events, will be on hand for visitors to see.
Plenty! will offer a menu of local foods to purchase. Red Rooster coffee will be there and Cocoa Mia will cool off visitors with yummy ice pops. Many vendors and exhibitors such as Bath Fitters, Creative Conservation, Tinbenders, Inc. and Pinewood Wind will answer questions.
Immediately preceding the Floyd Energy Fest, Healthy Floyd is hosting a 5K run/walk on the grounds. We are proud to be working together since individual well-being promotes and enhances the theme of energy at our Fest. Visit their website (http://healthyfloyd.org/floyd-5k-runwalk/) for more information and how to sign up.
Floyd Energy Fest will be held rain or shine. Admission will be $5.00 per person and $10 per family. Tickets may be purchased that day at the entrance of Chantilly Farm, a beautiful campground and outdoor events venue tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Floyd, Virginia (http://chantillyfarm.com/wp/#). The address is 2697 Franklin Pike SE, Floyd, VA 24091.
