Craig County Retired Teachers met on Tuesday, May 1. After Panco Cantley led the blessing, fourteen-members enjoyed a bountiful potluck lunch and camaraderie in the Craig Valley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Following a devotional in Matthew 7 by Joe Ann Duncan, the teachers were entertained by a reading of “Did You Ever?” by Hazel Hendricks. The old poem had been discovered while cleaning out a dresser. Many retired teacher’s chuckled at things they had done!

President Panco Cantley led a short business meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to collect money for the Retired Teacher’s Scholarship for a Craig County 2018 graduate. Almost $600 was collected! Members who were unable to attend are encouraged to mail in their contributions to Jackie Cantley. The scholarship will be presented at graduation on Friday, May 25.

A slate of officers was presented and elected: President, Panco Cantley; Vice President, Joe Ann Duncan; Secretary, Mary Ann Childress; Treasurer, Jackie Cantley; and reporter, Anita Booth.

Jay Polen will encourage eighth-grade middle school students on their “Why I Love Craig County” essays after SOLs. Craig County Retired Teachers donated $50 for a drawing for any student who submits an essay.

Dues will be collected at the August Back to School Meeting. Local dues are only seven dollars; district and state dues are optional. Any retired school employee is encouraged to attend.
